Last night, I saw "Rise of the Planet of the Apes."  It was great! - one of the best movies I've seen in years.  The writing, the acting, and the directing, were all strong.  Especially Andy Serkis' amazing performance -- BTW, why didn't he enjoy top billing in that movie?  He's near the bottom of the credit list... Also, I really enjoyed John Lithgow's performance as James Franco's character's father.

The Director of "Rise..." is Rupert Wyatt, with only four films to his name on IMDb.  How is it possible that he directed such a complex, and deft film on only his fourth outing?  I don't get it...

If you see "Rise...", make sure you stay after the credits roll - there's another 75 seconds of the movie

On the other hand, two nights ago, I saw 1/2 of "The Conspirator" - boy, what a bomb!  It had the worst direction (Robert Redford's) (feeling like an ABC After-School Special from the early 80's) I have seen since "The Brady Brides."  The dialogue was stilted.  The large panning shots looked fake (especially the views of the prison).  And worst of all, there was a great range of abilities between the actors' performances (from great to abyssmal), which made the movie feel painful. For example, Robin Wright and Kevin Kline were great, and very believable...  Justin Long and Colm Meaney on the other hand, were caricatures of characters that they have played in other shows/movies (see "Galaxy Quest" and "Star Trek - The Next Generation," respectively).
